(Yep, this is me)
If you know me, you might be thinking "What?!? Adrienne, are you serious?  'The Affable Knitter'?  That's the funniest joke I've heard in awhile..."

It's true, I've got a penchant for having an opinion and (often) sharing it.  I've also been known to say things akin to "I just don't really like people very much."

And if we're friends, there's no doubt you know what affable means.

So you're confused.  And wondering how on earth I could be writing a blog with this name.  I get it.  I do.  But if you really know me, you also know that I can be quite affable.  And charming.  And funny.  And modest, too!  Okay, you know that I tend to attract the strangest people and am unfailingly polite when I do.  And, well ... I'd say that makes me approachable in a friendly kind of way, wouldn't you?

Now that we've got that out of the way, let me give you a quick rundown on what this blog is all about: I've been knitting for years (learned when I was 5 but really didn't knit until a decade or so ago).  I used to be absolutely tied to patterns.

As in ... Change the yarn brand from what's suggested?  Never!  Change the color to something more pleasing to my eye?  No way!  Alter the sizing so it actually fits?  Pick a new pattern!

And then my niece asked me to make her a cat hat.  And we looked for a pattern that was exactly what she wanted.  We looked.  And looked.  And looked.  And, sure, I found some hats that seemed reasonable to me, but they just weren't what she wanted.  But I'd made a promise, and that meant I had no choice but to figure out how to make the hat she wanted - sans pattern.  And you know what?  It was the most freeing thing I'd ever done with two sticks and a ball of yarn!  Even better?  Someone over at Knit Picks thought the hat was great, too, and they agreed to put it in their Independent Designer Program.  And then I had another idea.  And then another...

A couple years later, I've barely knit a thing from a pattern because I simply have too many ideas bungling around in my head.  (Don't get me wrong - there are lots of beautiful patterns out there, and I have a whole list of ones I want to make - I just can't find the time!)  This blog is meant to be my account of the (mis)adventures that happen when I go bungling around with the ideas.
